Continuing professional development for psychiatrists: CPD and training

Joe Bouch

Joe Bouch is a consultant psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry with Greater Glasgow NHS Primary Care Trust and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow (Goldenhill Resource Centre, 199 Dumbarton Road, Clydebank G81 4XJ, UK. His main professional interests are in the fields of postgraduate medical education, the management of severe and enduring mental illness, and suicide prevention.

Abstract

Major change is currently occurring in psychiatric training. This editorial explores some of the implications for consultants and CPD. CPD policy and the fit with appraisal and revalidation are discussed. Consultant involvement in training is considered, including consultants’ roles as trainers and their involvement in ‘post-CCT training’.
