The Disability Discrimination Act, passed by Parliament in 1995, is an important piece of legislation with the potential to protect the employment rights of people with disabilities. It covers people with physical or mental impairments that have a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. The Act has sections regarding protection from discrimination in employment, in the provision of goods, services and facilities, and in education.
